Working from home and HVAC costs

I truly don’t know how people function in this remote-work world we’ve all fallen into.

I am not one of the folks who thrives working alone all day in my own house, I can tell you that much. I find it extremely isolating and pointless to have a job when it doesn’t even make you leave your own property to interact with others. Maybe I’m just an extrovert, but I can’t seem to adjust to this lifestyle change… and neither can my heating and cooling system! When I moved into this house I wasn’t very concerned about the forced air furnace or large AC unit. The plastic dial thermostat was no problem for me. I just didn’t even consider my indoor air temperature or quality to be a big deal – I was going to be out of the house at least 40 hours a week for work, anyways. And then the pandemic struck. Suddenly, I needed to be in my home all the time… and my HVAC system was not cutting it anymore. The central furnace and AC are inefficient to use. It creates uneven temperatures around the home. The HVAC equipment costs a fortune to maintain and repair. And I don’t think that my air ducts are very clean, either. I found myself drowning in energy bills, sniffles, shivers, and woes. Day after day, I dreaded touching my thermostat. Soon I dreaded my daily routine. Working from home killed my spirits and the last leg my HVAC system was standing on. Now I have to spend a ton of money to replace the heating and cooling setup… and I’m back in the office, anyway.
