Too noisy to sleep

She said that if the belt was either frayed due to old age or slipping it would cause the system to make that type of noise

Couple of weeks ago I started to notice a strange noise each time my heater was running. I suppose I should have looked into it then but it wasn’t until it started making a very loud squealing noise that I really paid attention. Each time the furnace kicked on the noise started and grew louder as it ran. I found myself waiting for it to turn off just so I could have peace and quiet for a few minutes. I knew I needed to call in a technician before something serious happened and when I called and explained what was going on to the receptionist she said that she more than likely knew what the problem was. I was pretty impressed that the receptionist knew as much as she did about HVAC systems but she said she would send out a technician to check the blower belt on my system. She said that if the belt was either frayed due to old age or slipping it would cause the system to make that type of noise. When I asked her how she knew so much about furnace has she said that her father owned the business and she grew up hearing about all of the problems they came along with it.She said that as a teenager she even went along with him on repair jobs as an apprentice of sorts so she was well-versed with many of the common problems the systems had. As I said, I was pretty impressed with her knowledge and I can easily see her taking over the business one day when her dad decides to retire.
