When I first bought my home, I was interested in the installation of a security system. At that time, most security systems were designed for commercial application. The cost was quite high. Plus, all the various components needed to be hardwired and required drilling holes in the walls. Installation caused quite a bit of disruption, and the equipment was rather bulky and unattractive. I ultimately decided against it. Just recently, I once again looked into the possibility of increasing home security. I was amazed by the evolution of technology. Today’s systems are entirely wireless. Along with ease of installation, the system is virtually future-proof. Software updates enable new versions to be applied as they become available. I chose to install an entire home automation system. This modern innovation has greatly elevated the security, safety, energy efficiency and productivity of my home. I’ve bundled all my smart appliances into a single control hub. Through an app on my phone, I can access the oven, refrigerator, dryer, washing machine, dish washer, coffee maker, sump pump and so much more. I’m able to program the lights to not only turn on and off at specific times but to react to occupancy. The automation system utilizes geofencing to know when family members arrive home. When I pull into the driveway, the garage door automatically opens. The lights in the garage and the kitchen turn on, and the door to the house unlocks. The thermostat adjusts so that I’m welcomed home to the perfect temperature. A cup of hot coffee is waiting for me. Because of sensors on the windows, automated door locks, surveillance cameras and motion-activated lighting, the house is much more secure.
